I have never used a Poco F series device before as I live in the USA and they are not very common here. So I decided to order one and try it out for awhile. When I got it, I was absolutely surprised by how much I liked it. The design was iphonesque, except ligher and better balanced in the hand. The software was very snappy and I like the way it was setup. The camera was ok, not the best, but not the worst either. Over all I really wanted to keep this device and use it as my daily driver, but for some reason I was unable to get it activated on my network which is google fi. So I did have to return it. But now lets get to the details - how is the display for us PWM sensitive folk.
Jumping right in at 75% we see that this rating on paper is bad for the eyes. Like many other chinese phone displays it opts for a very low flicker rate when at higher brightness levels. This one is around 61hz which is very low. But it's not the whole story, my eyes were not bothered at all by this display at this brightness level, and I think it's because of the very little modulation difference in the dimming. Lots of displays will dim to almost all the way off and back on, as you can see in the modulation on the right it stays mostly flat, but only dims by 200 lux when it does flicker. This low modulation rate does not affect me as much as the frequency, and I think many other sensitive people may be the same way.
At 50% the Poco F6 shines. The flicker rate jumps to a whopping 1980 hz and keeps a fairly low modulation rate, never entirely turning off the display. This is a pretty low risk display and most will not have issues at this brightness level.
At 25% brightness, we see it continue with this patter. 1980hz which is an excellent frequency rate. We do see that the screen at this point will hit totally off in the modulation, however the difference between entirely off and the peak brightness at 25% is much lower than other devices. I would say some sensitive people may be affected at this brightness level. Overall I really did like this phone and for me personally it worked out. I may try to find a way to use this device in the future on my carrier. For now, I can feel comfortable recommending this as a device that will be ok for some sensitive people.
